Rajasthan
Two trips across one state, written as two separate stories. Both parts are live.
I didn’t plan Rajasthan as a two-part thing. It just worked out that way.
In February 2024 I did Udaipur and Jaipur, the lake city and the pink one. The postcard version of the state: palaces, thalis, sunrises over Lake Pichola, an overnight train, a fort at dawn. I came back thinking I’d seen Rajasthan. I hadn’t.
In March 2026 I went back for Pushkar, Bundi, and Ranthambore, timed so I’d be at the ghats of Pushkar Lake for Holi. Smaller towns, older streets, blue houses, a tiger safari to close it out. Less polished. Better.
Here’s the split:
- Part 1 is the 2024 leg, the start. Udaipur and Jaipur over five days.
- Part 2 is the 2026 one, the one I just got back from. Pushkar, Bundi, Ranthambore over seven.
Read Part 1 first if you’ve never been. Read Part 2 first if you have.
The parts
Udaipur & Jaipur
Five days through the postcard version of Rajasthan, the one most people start with. Worth doing properly before you graduate to the smaller towns.
Pushkar, Bundi & Ranthambore
Seven days through the parts of Rajasthan most people skip, timed for Holi at the ghats, ending with tigers.
